In the global industrial landscape, companies are considering different formulas for collecting and managing internal data. The direction taken leads to Cloud computing. But Cloud computing is an opportunity based on various solutions that can be integrated to create more and better strategies.
Today many companies choose the Hybrid Cloud, which has the greatest benefits. A Hybrid Cloud is a computing environment that allows data and applications sharing between public and private clouds. In fact, it allows businesses to easily resize the local infrastructure, thus managing any surplus and avoiding that third-party data centers access business data. This does not mean that the public cloud can not be adequately exploited (in fact, it is used for non-sensitive basic processing activities, it keeps local business data protected by a corporate firewall). With the Hybrid Cloud you won’t pay large sums of money just to obtain more space for more sensitive data or applications. The company pays exclusively for the type of resource used and the length of time it takes for operations. It guarantees the advantages Cloud Computing, that we already know (flexibility, scalability, cost control), lowering the risk of data vulnerability.

In this case, a service provider offers resources to the public on the internet, ensuring scalability and low prices, thanks to a data center that the company owns. You do not have to buy hardware, pay for maintenance, staff training and software licenses. On the downside is the impossibility of controlling security policy choices, risking that the end users fear that their data has not been properly saved and are not safe from external attacks. Adopting a truly secure data center is a reality for few businesses, as the economic investment that comes with it to comply with security rules is high (video footage, access control with identification, safe disassembly of disks in case of failures, secure access to sensitive data for intranet users).
This is an internal virtual dimension of the company, where services and resources are uploaded online. It's all inside the data center and solves the problem of privacy and security. The private cloud has the advantage of being useful to individual business units because represents a cost that can be depreciated by the company itself. It is a tool that optimizes available resources, so it is agile, scalable and usable at any time with the desired configuration. The reasons for choosing this option include security, governance, data privacy, and the use of hardware and software resources. But considering potential internal problems, the risk of losing data is much higher.
The Hybrid Cloud is an infrastructure that is maintained by the internal and external provider and allows the sharing of data center and public cloud information. This is an optimal solution for companies that need to delegate some of the information management outside, while still maintaining the most sensitive ones. If there is already a consolidated IT infrastructure in place and a gradual migration to a public cloud service has been decided, the continuity of the service for employees is guaranteed. When there is no desire to make important investments for short projects or want to exploit the public Cloud with a IaaS service for the less sensitive data, the Hybrid Cloud is the right solution.
Companies that need to consider which Cloud types are available, should consider these aspects:
• Cost of computing in your data center and Public Cloud
• Does the company already start from a virtual infrastructure? If so, the Private/Hybrid Cloud makes sense and costs less
• What benefits could you get from the Public Cloud?
• Data sensitivity: if high, it’s better to prefer a Private or Hybrid Cloud, if low the Public Cloud is a less expensive solution
